What is IPA?
The International Phonetic Alphabet gives one symbol to every sound, so you can see exactly how a word is pronounced, whatever its spelling.
Which English does it use, British or American?
The transcriptions are General American. Some vowels and the r sound differ in British English. They are built from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary (Carnegie Mellon University) and the Heylangs dictionary.
Why are some words not converted?
Names, new words and rare words may be missing from the dictionary. They are left as written so you can see what was not converted.
