Jack Dawson

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Heylangs Podcast. I'm Jack Dawson. It is Saturday morning. My alarm is quiet. But my dog is not quiet! Coco jumps on my bed at eight. She wants to go outside. Good morning, everyone. This is the Heylangs Podcast. Today we talk about the weekend. I love Saturday. On Saturday I don't go to work. I sleep a little more.

Emma Wells

And I'm Emma Wells. Hi, everyone! Coco is your alarm clock, Jack! I don't have a dog. But I love the weekend too. On Saturday I wake up at nine. I don't use an alarm. I open the window. I look at my plants. Then I make a big cup of tea.

Jack Dawson

My dog's name is Coco. She is a beagle. She is brown and white. She is six years old. She loves the park. On Saturday morning we walk in the park. The park is near my apartment. It is very big. Many people run there. Coco says hello to every dog.

Emma Wells

That sounds nice, Jack. I don't have a dog. But I have twelve plants. On Saturday morning I water them. I clean the leaves. I talk to the plants a little. My friend Sofia laughs at me. But the plants are happy.

Jack Dawson

After the park, I go to a café. The café is called Blue Door. It is on the corner of my street. I drink a big coffee. I eat a bagel with cheese. Coco sits under the table. The waiter gives her some water.

Emma Wells

I make breakfast at home. On Saturday I have time. I make pancakes with bananas. I put honey on them. Sometimes I make eggs too. I listen to music in the kitchen. I eat slowly. I look out of the window. The street is quiet.

Jack Dawson

At eleven o'clock I go to the market. The market is open on Saturday. I buy apples and bread. I buy eggs from an old man. His name is Mr. Green. He has a small farm. His eggs are very good.

Emma Wells

I go to the market too! But I go to a different one. My market is near the river. I buy fresh herbs there. I buy basil and mint. I also buy flowers. This week I want yellow flowers.

Jack Dawson

In the afternoon I clean my apartment. I don't like it. But it is important. I open all the windows. I wash the floor. I clean the bathroom. Coco sits on the sofa. She watches me. She doesn't help.

Emma Wells

I clean on Saturday too. But first, I cook lunch. Cooking is my favorite thing. This week I make pasta with tomatoes. I use the basil from the market. Sam eats with me. My neighbor Mr. Ahmed comes for lunch too. He brings some cheese. They like my pasta a lot.

Jack Dawson

On Saturday afternoon I call my sister Laura. Laura lives in Leeds. We talk for one hour. We talk about her kids, Mia and Oliver. We talk about football. We laugh a lot. Then I take a short nap on the sofa.

Emma Wells

Sometimes I go to the library on Saturday afternoon. The library is free. It is warm and quiet. I sit by the window. I look at cookbooks. I write down new recipes. Then I walk home slowly. It takes twenty minutes.

Jack Dawson

Sometimes I go swimming on Saturday afternoon. The pool is near the park. I swim for thirty minutes. The water is cold at first. Then it feels good. After swimming I am very hungry. I eat a big sandwich.

Emma Wells

After lunch, I read a book. I sit in my big green chair. I have a blanket and some tea. Right now I am reading a book about Italy. It is long, but it is good. I read for two hours.

Jack Dawson

On Saturday evening I meet my friends Marco and Tom. We go to a small restaurant. The restaurant is Vietnamese. We eat noodle soup. It is hot and delicious. After dinner we walk by the river. The lights are beautiful at night.

Emma Wells

On Saturday evening I stay at home. I watch a movie with Sam. I like old movies. I make popcorn. Sometimes Sofia comes and watches with us. We talk about the movie. Then she goes home at eleven.

Jack Dawson

Sunday is different for me. Sunday is a slow day. I get up late. I don't go to the café. I make eggs at home. I eat them with toast. Coco eats her breakfast too.

Emma Wells

On Sunday morning I go to a yoga class. The class starts at ten. It is in a small room near my house. There are ten people in the class. The teacher is very calm. After yoga I feel great.

Jack Dawson

On Sunday afternoon I play football. My team is called the Blue Foxes. We are not very good. But we have fun. We play in the park. After the game we drink lemonade. Then I go home.

Emma Wells

On Sunday afternoon I also see my neighbor Mr. Ahmed. He is seventy years old. He lives alone. We drink coffee together. He tells stories about his life. I bring him some cake. He is always happy to see me.

Jack Dawson

That is very kind, Emma. On Sunday I sometimes go to the beach. The beach is one hour away by train. Coco loves the sand. She runs and runs. I sit and look at the sea. I feel very relaxed there.

Emma Wells

On Sunday I visit the garden center. It is my happy place. I look at all the plants. Sometimes I buy a new one. This week I have a new small cactus. Now it is on my desk. It is very cute.

Jack Dawson

On Sunday evening I cook for the week. I make rice and chicken. I put the food in five boxes. One box for every day. It saves time. On Monday I don't cook. I just open a box.

Emma Wells

That is a good idea, Jack. I also prepare for Monday. I wash my clothes. I clean my shoes. I write a list for the week. Then I take a long bath. I go to bed at ten.

Jack Dawson

On Sunday night I walk Coco one more time. The streets are quiet. The shops are closed. I look at the moon. Then I go home. I read for ten minutes. I sleep at eleven.

Emma Wells

I love the weekend. Two days is not a lot. But they are good days. I rest. I cook. I see my friends. On Monday I am ready for work.

Jack Dawson

Me too, Emma. The weekend is for you. Sleep more. Walk more. Call a friend. Do a fun thing. And practice your English! Listen to this podcast again. Say the words out loud. Practice with a friend.

Emma Wells

Great idea, Jack. Thank you for listening, everyone. What do you do on the weekend? Think about it in English. Remember, a little practice every day makes a big difference. See you next time!
