Jack and Emma talk about smart speakers like Alexa and Google Home. They share simple stories about using voice assistants every day.
Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Heylangs Podcast. I'm Jack Dawson. 'Alexa, what is the weather today?' I say this every morning. I say it before I say hello to my dog Coco! Today we are talking about smart speakers. I use my smart speaker every day. Let's start our show now.
And I'm Emma Wells. Hi, everyone. Poor Coco, Jack! I love technology, too. I have a smart speaker at home. It is a small, round device. It sits on my kitchen table. I use it every day.
I have an Amazon Echo. It is my smart speaker. Every morning, I say, 'Alexa, what is the weather?' Alexa tells me the weather. Then I know what to wear for my run. It is very helpful for me.
I have a Google Home. It is small and white. I ask it many questions. I say, 'Hey Google, play some music.' Then it plays my favorite songs. I love this feature very much.
My smart speaker helps me every day. I say, 'Alexa, set a timer.' I am cooking dinner right now. I am not a good cook. The timer helps me a lot. I don't burn my food anymore. It is a great little tool.
I use my speaker for my calendar. I say, 'Hey Google, what is my schedule?' It tells me my meetings. I am busy this week. My speaker helps me remember things. It is like a helper.
Sometimes I ask my speaker for jokes. It tells funny jokes to me. I am laughing right now! My niece Mia loves this feature. She asks for jokes at my flat. We are having so much fun.
My speaker controls my lights, too. I say, 'Turn off the lights.' The lights turn off right away. I don't need to walk to the switch. This is very convenient for me. Technology is amazing.
These speakers use artificial intelligence. We call it AI for short. AI helps the speaker understand us. It listens to our voice. Then it gives us an answer. This technology is very smart.
My Nan has a smart speaker now. She is eighty-five years old. She lives in Cardiff. She talks to it every day. She asks about the news. She also asks about her medicine time. It helps her a lot.
I also have a robot vacuum at home. It is a different kind of smart device. It cleans my floor every day. I don't push it around. It moves by itself. My dog Coco is scared of it. That is a funny story!
That sounds great, Jack! Poor Coco! I want a robot vacuum, too. But my flat is full of plants. It is like a small forest. Maybe the robot stops at every plant. Maybe we can talk about that another day.
I also have a smart doorbell. It has a small camera. When someone comes to my door, my phone rings. I see the visitor on my phone. I don't need to open the door first. It is very safe.
I don't have a smart doorbell yet. But I want one soon. My friend Hannah has one at her house. She shows me videos from her doorbell. The videos are very clear and nice. I am thinking about buying one.
These devices are not very expensive now. Many stores sell them at a good price. You can buy a small speaker easily. My speaker is a gift from my sister Laura. Now I have two speakers at home.
Setting up a smart speaker is easy, too. First, you plug it in. Then you open an app on your phone. The app connects the speaker to your Wi-Fi. After that, you can start talking to it.
Some people worry about privacy. They think the speaker is always listening. This is a good question to think about. But many people still love these devices. I am one of them. I use mine every day.
I think smart speakers help busy families. My friend Priya is a nurse. She has two small kids. A smart speaker helps with small jobs. It saves time for everyone in her house.
In the future, I think we are getting more smart devices. Maybe our whole house is smart one day. Our fridge, our TV, and our car are all connecting together. That future sounds very exciting to me.
Priya's son uses a smart speaker for homework, too. He asks, 'What is seven times eight?' The speaker gives him the answer fast. Then he checks his own work. It is a nice study helper for children.
Our podcast studio also has a smart speaker. We use it before we record. We say, 'Set a reminder for tomorrow.' It never forgets our tasks. Emma likes this device a lot, too. Our small studio is becoming a smart studio slowly.
I use my speaker to make shopping lists. I say, 'Add milk to my list.' Later, I open the app at the store. The list is already there for me. I never forget an item now.
My neighbor Daniel uses a smart speaker for language learning. He is learning Spanish this year. He works at night, so he studies in the morning. He says, 'How do you say good morning in Spanish?' The speaker teaches him new words every day. That is a smart way to study.
Some smart speakers can also make phone calls. I call my Nan with my speaker sometimes. I say, 'Call Nan.' The speaker calls her right away. I don't even need to hold my phone.
I think these small devices change our daily life. They are cheap, small, and very useful. More and more families are buying them every year. I am excited to see new features soon.
My friend Hannah has a smart speaker in her car, too. It is different from a home speaker. She says, 'Navigate to the airport.' The speaker gives her directions right away. She also plays podcasts with it during long trips.
That's really cool, Emma! I want a car speaker, too. But I don't have a car. I love trains! My sister Laura is planning a road trip next month. I am going with her family to the beach. A smart speaker helps a lot on long car trips. It keeps the kids happy and busy.
What about you, listeners? What smart devices do you have at home? What do you ask your speaker every day? Please tell us your story. We love hearing from you. Send us a message today.
This was a fun topic today. We are learning new words together. Smart speaker, robot, camera, and AI are useful words. Please practice speaking about this topic. You can talk about your own devices. You can also describe how you use them at home.
Thank you for listening today. We really enjoyed this conversation. This topic is fun and useful for daily life. Remember, a little practice every day makes a big difference. See you next time!
